Success Story – Li Yuexin, a life moved by compassion

🎙️ Giving Dreams a Voice — and Turning Kindness Into Action

From radio waves to campaigns for justice, from elegant boardrooms to grassroots charity work — Li Yuexin’s journey is a story of courage and transformation.
Born in Taiwan and deeply rooted in compassion, she has lived many roles: radio host, corporate executive, and changemaker for sustainability. What has never changed is her devotion to the power of voice — and her belief that kindness in action can heal the world.

As a student, Yuexin dreamed of becoming a radio host — of using her voice to comfort and connect people she had never met.
Her dream came true in 1986 when she joined a broadcasting station, soon realising that behind every microphone lies not just sound, but a calling.

After moving to mainland China, she spent 16 years with China National Radio’s Music Radio, eventually becoming general manager behind one of the country’s most popular pop music channels. Her audience — mostly young people — often turned to her for advice and solace. They affectionately called her “Sister Yuexin.”

“Even if we are strangers,” she says, “a voice can cross time and space to bring warmth to another soul.”

In 1996, Yuexin joined public awareness work on ending hunger, marking the beginning of her philanthropic journey.
When she later settled in Shanghai, that spark grew stronger. In 2017, she created a support network for severely ill orphans, which quickly grew to nearly 500 caring individuals.

“Every small action matters,” she insists. “Tiny drops of kindness can merge into an ocean of love.”

Pei, founder and CEO of ACTAsia, once described her as: “A gentle, beautiful, and wise changemaker — a voice for sustainable living and life care education.”

A Diamond Heart – Pursuing Truth, Goodness, and Beauty

In 2015, Yuexin attended a dinner where ACTAsia’s founder, Pei, gave a deeply moving talk. ACTAsia had evolved from promoting animal welfare to fostering life care education — helping children, consumers, and professionals cultivate empathy and responsibility. That vision resonated instantly. Yuexin felt called to take part.

When Pei later appeared on Yuexin’s radio show, she said something that changed Yuexin’s perspective forever: “True animal protection must begin with educating the human heart — and that education starts with children.”

It was a moment of deep connection. Yuexin became one of ACTAsia’s most dedicated supporters, inspired by Pei’s resilience and clarity of purpose.

When the pandemic hit in 2022, Yuexin’s life pivoted once more. She joined the Beijing International Exchange Association Sustainable Development Committee, eventually becoming chief convener of the SAGE Project, a community advocating mindful, sustainable living. A ‘Chief Convener’ is a person whoembodies or integrates the unity of knowledge and action.
That December, she made a bold choice — to leave her 20‑year corporate career and devote herself entirely to community leadership. “Now, my life has only one purpose,” she shares. “To be someone who unites knowledge with action.

Yuexin often compares herself and Pei to ‘Transformers’ — women who shift roles endlessly, yet protect a heart made of light. “Our ‘diamond hearts’ may be tested, but they never break.”

Even as Pei quietly battled cancer, she continued to lead ACTAsia with extraordinary strength — a living reminder to Yuexin that leadership, at its core, is love in motion.

Awakening Hearts — The Power of Life Care

Through years of hosting and mentoring, Yuexin noticed a growing concern: the rise of depression among young people.
Behind their bright smiles, many were struggling with family tension and pressure — proof of how modern life can quietly weigh down young hearts. That realization deepened her belief in life care education — an approach that teaches compassion as both mindset and practice.

“We must awaken our hearts,” Yuexin says. “When the power of love grows within, true transformation begins.” To her, awakening means choosing love over fear, kindness over indifference, light over shadow.

ACTAsia’s Caring for Life Education for Children program brings this philosophy to life. It’s the world’s first curriculum built on UNESCO’s Four Pillars of Education, designed for China’s primary schools. The lessons weave together citizenship, animal welfare, environmental care, and social responsibility, helping children think ethically, feel deeply, and act kindly.

“All life is interconnected,” Yuexin explains. “When children learn to protect others — people, animals, and the Earth — they discover their own strength to make the world better.”

Turning Compassion Into Change

Despite her achievements, Yuexin remains humble. “Around me are people who dedicate their lives to others. They inspire me deeply. Even if I’m small, I can still offer my piece of heart.”

Her generosity extends beyond words — she donates regularly to ACTAsia and has volunteered her voice talent for Caring for Life Education videos, helping the message reach classrooms throughout China.

To Yuexin, philanthropy is a way of life. Every thoughtful act — sorting waste, reducing plastic use, protecting the planet — becomes part of a shared mission of kindness. “They aren’t celebrities or elites,” she smiles. “They’re ordinary people doing extraordinary good.”

Each small act strengthens the current of compassion. “Instead of complaining,” she says, “roll up your sleeves and start acting.” She also recognises that lasting change requires community:

“One person can walk fast, but a group can walk far.”

Ten Years of Goodness — A Lifetime of Love

For Li Yuexin, doing good isn’t an event — it’s a rhythm. Her unwavering support of ACTAsia’s Caring for Life  Education reflects her faith in a gentler future — a world where children grow up to respect others, care for animals, and protect our shared home.

“Support life care, nurture empathy, and help love grow endlessly.”

By joining ACTAsia’s Monthly Donation Program, she reminds others that together, we can raise a generation of compassionate changemakers — children who build a safer, kinder, and more harmonious world.

This story was written and adapted by ACTAsia’s editorial team to celebrate changemakers who bring compassion to life through action, especially in our 20th Anniversary year.
Special thanks to Ms. Li Yuexin, whose inspiring journey reminds us that every word spoken with kindness can create ripples of positive change across the world.
