Twenty Years of Caring
Our 20th Anniversary Reception in Shanghai
On 25 October 2026, Super Typhoon ‘Champi’ passed close to Shanghai and sent rain and wind across the city.
By the time we gathered at Lan Gardens (揽园) in the Xuhui District, the sky had cleared and the garden looked greener than ever. Eighty guests joined our 20th Anniversary Reception: beneficiary representatives, long-term donors, partners, caring businesses, international guests and volunteers. We came together to say thank you for twenty years of trust and companionship.
Looking back
The afternoon opened with a short film on our twenty-year journey. Founder and CEO Pei Su, thanked the donors, partners and volunteers who have stood by ACTAsia, and shared our plans for the years ahead.
Much of the harm done to people, animals and the environment in our society does not come from cruelty in human nature; it comes from a lack of awareness. I believe that by educating one generation, we can change our future. Every one of you here today is a participant in, and a witness to, our journey in education: children learn in the classroom to treat the lives around them with kindness, while teachers, veterinarians, designers and consumers each make a different difference in their own roles. Twenty years of accumulated experience have made us even more certain that education cannot wait.

Thanking the people who bring caring into everyday life
Pei Su, Project Director Liu Xiaoya and Gong Peihan, President of the 1881 Taiwan Professional Women’s Society, took turns presenting awards to partners, caring businesses, media outlets, public-interest figures and volunteers. Honourees included Luo Yazhi of Zhuhai Tang Guo’an Memorial School, Yin Zhijuan of our Veterinary Care Without Borders programme, FFR brands ICICLE and JICHENG (吉承), the Shenzhen Youth Development Foundation, and The Paper (澎湃新闻) Investigative News Department.
Remembering three friends
A special tribute, told through film and words of homage, remembered three friends who have since passed:
- Xiao Bing of the Xiamen Specialist Committee on Animal Care Education, who gave eighteen years to animal protection education and helped bring Caring for Life Education to Fujian in 2013.
- Jiang Jinsong of Tsinghua University, who built a homegrown body of animal ethics thought.
- Huang Dawei, musician and Caring for Life Education ambassador, who wrote the song “Save My Skin” for our fur-free campaign.
Their work lives on in every Caring for Life Education classroom and campaign.
Five pledges for everyday life
Near the end, ambassador and actor Jerry Huang came on stage and invited the whole room to make Five Caring for Life Pledges:
- Face harm to life with action, and refuse to be a bystander.
- Choose fur-free fashion.
- Adopt instead of buying.
- Eat more plant-based food.
- Start reducing plastic.

Pei Su closed by thanking every fellow traveller, in the room and beyond.
The reception was co-supported by 1881 TPWS, Yicai Fashion IDOLE (益彩时尚), ZUNY, Heran Organic (禾然有机), Shengbao Liangpin (晟宝良品), JICHENG, UTC Xingjia (UTC行家), the Aizhongsheng Alliance (爱众生联盟) and Kemai (科麦). Heran Organic, Wushang Suwei (无上素味), Biotta, Green Friday and Sileemata (思乐玛塔) provided the plant-based refreshments.
Since 2006, we have grown from a small team into a community of children, teachers, veterinarians, fashion professionals, consumers and businesses, all working towards a kinder world that cares for people, animals and the environment. ACTAsia holds Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council, and Caring for Life Education is recognised as a UN “SDG Best Practice” and a “Transforming Education Summit Best Practice”.
