Taiwanese dogs: treated like trash
Kept in filthy sheds, consumed by maggots, with no room to lie down, no medical care and nothing to eat, tens of thousands of dogs and cats live a miserable life in municipal pounds throughout Taiwan.
A recent three-year long investigation by the Environment and Animal Society in Taiwan (EAST) unveils a horrible account of institutionalised cruelty.
Promoting animal welfare legislation in China

Animals in China are not protected by law. Efforts are being made to change this, and we have to ensure it is as animal friendly as possible. ACTAsia has brought together Chinese animal protection groups, law drafters and concerned influential academics for the first time at a forum to promote animal welfare legislation.
ACTAsia also held its fourth annual workshop to build the capacity of local animal protectionists in China. Our major aim was to prepare them for the important role they have in promoting animal welfare legislation in their country. We addressed the ways they could promote their work - including legislation - among the public, the government and the media.
