Companion animal welfare in China, 2006

Campaign Mobilisation was done for a number of Chinese groups following the killing of thousands of dogs by the Chinese authorities due to a rabies scare. We obtained statements of support from international groups, and worked with Chinese groups to create their campaign strategy and documents for presentation to the government. We have also provided information on humane dog control to help them take their campaigning forward.



24-12-2006: Good news for dogs in Beijing, but far from a happy ending!

Thanks to the collective efforts of ACTAsia for Animals, other animal welfare groups and thousands of supporters all over the world, the confiscation of dogs by the Beijing authorities has ended.

12-11-2006: Dogowners stand up to protect their own and 'man's' best friend.

On 11th November at 11am thousands of dog owners and residents of Beijing gathered in front of Beijing Zoo to sign a petition calling for the protection of dogs in Beijing.

If you were a dog owner in Beijing, and you happened to own a German Shepherd, St Bernard, Golden Retriever, Husky, Collie, Shetland Sheepdog or even a Cocker Spaniel, you could get a visit from the authorities.
