ACTAsia draws heavily on the personal experience of its staff, who have worked on animal welfare issues in Asia and Europe.

Pei-Feng Su, the Executive Director and co-founder, has been active in animal advocacy for fifteen years. She has spearheaded various campaigns in Asia on issues including Chinese bear farming, fur farming, the illegal turtle trade, zoos and stray animal management. She also has in-depth knowledge and experience in strategic planning and international animal welfare project management in diverse environments. Over the last seven years she has focused on building the capacity of local advocates around the world. Pei has a Master’s degree in Sociology. She is from Taiwan, and lives in the UK.

Deepashree Balaram is Programme Director and co-founder. In various roles at international animal welfare organisations she has been responsible for companion animal issues, project development and educational resources at different levels. She is experienced in developing educational materials and coordinating campaigns with groups from different countries. She has a veterinary degree and an MBA, and lives in India.

Nel van Amerongen, Communications Director, was an account manager for ten years with a non-profit communications and fundraising agency, mainly aimed at building animal welfare and humanitarian organisations. She then took on a role as regional manager for an international animal welfare society in The Netherlands, where she was responsible for all fundraising, campaigning and communications. Nel has a Master’s degree in neuropsychology. She currently lives in Singapore.
